Colorado Garden Show, Inc. awards first full-ride college scholarship to LaSalle resident
Even is a recent graduate of Valley High School in Gilcrest,
Colo, where she earned a 4.0 grade point average, was National
Honor Society President, and the recipient of numerous awards.
She is the second of five girls and lives with her family on a
farm near LaSalle. She will attend Colorado State University in
Fort Collins this fall where she plans to earn a bachelor's
degree in Agriculture Science with a major in Landscape Design.
Jim Fricke, executive director of Colorado Garden Show, Inc.,
said, "The board of directors was pleased to award this
scholarship to Elizabeth Even. We were all impressed with her
academic and social credentials, as well as her community and
work ethic."
The scholarship includes tuition, fees, room and board, and all
required books for the four years of study. In addition, Even
will be given a laptop computer and printer at the start of her
freshman year, Fricke said.
"I was shocked when I got the news," Even said. "This feels
like a dream and it has changed my life. I'm just glad to know
that all my hard work has finally paid off."
The Colorado Garden Show, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization,
produces the Colorado Garden & Home Show, the region's oldest,
largest and most prestigious garden and home improvement show,
which attracts 70,000 people yearly. Proceeds from the show
provide funds for horticultural-related grants and scholarships
in the state of Colorado. More than $280,000 was awarded to 28
organizations and 10 horticulture students in 2006. The 2007
Colorado Garden & Home Show will be held February 3-11 at the
Colorado Convention Center
