In the early morning hours of Feb. 12, members of Rural/Metro Ambulance and the Aurora Gateway Rotary Club gathered together at the site of the Colorado Garden & Home Show to deliver flowers to elder care facilities for the show's Flower Power event.
Rural/Metro Ambulance and the Aurora Gateway Rotary Club delivered 28 boxes of flowers to the residents and staff of Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Center of Excellence and Camellia Healthcare Center in Aurora. The flowers were donated from vendors of the 48th annual Colorado Garden & Home Show held at the Colorado Convention Center.
For over 10 years, local rotary clubs have teamed up with the Colorado Garden & Home Show for Flower Power. The project started in an effort to recycle leftover flowers from the show. The Garden & Home Show is produced by Colorado Garden Show Inc., a nonprofit organization that uses its proceeds to provide scholarship and grant money for local students and groups involved with horticulture and horticultural related projects. This year over 100 volunteers from more than 20 rotary clubs boxed up approximately 7,500 fresh flowers for delivery to 70 nursing homes and care facilities in the greater Denver area.
Rural/Metro Ambulance also helped to pick up and deliver the boxed flowers to elder care facilities in Aurora.
"It's rewarding knowing that something so simple can brighten someone's day," said Rosemary Singer,of Rural/Metro.
The reason for this project is found in the "enjoyment of seeing residents light up," said James Czupor,of The Interpro Group, marketing firm for Colorado Garden Show Inc.
A little time and effort goes a long way to making someone smile. That's the magic of Flower Power.
